Physical Distancing & Social Solidarity

At Attentive Counseling Services, we want to ensure our clients have the social connection they need while adhering to physical distancing during the virus outbreak.

Starting March 23, 2020, all psychotherapy sessions will be provided through a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform. Our counselors provide the same high-quality care via teletherapy for individuals, families, couples, children, and adolescents as we do in person.

If you suspect you may have novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and it's not an emergency, OSF Healthcare has developed a free screening tool and hotline available at  https://www.osfhealthcare.org/covid19/.

How does teletherapy work?

  • As long as you have a computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and internet connection, teletherapy is an option for you. If you've used Skype or FaceTime, you've used the same type of technology that teletherapy uses. Attentive Counseling Services uses a HIPAA-compliant version of VSee.
  • Appointments are the same length of time as your in-person sessions and are scheduled in the same way.
  • You choose a quiet, private spot free of distractions, interuptions, and background noise and connect with your therapist via a safe, secure online platform.

Is teletherapy covered by insurance?

Some insurance companies do not cover sessions that are not in-person; therefore, self pay rates will apply. The insurance companies not covering behavioral health teletherapy are realizing the need for this during the virus pandemic; many are revising their policies and are starting to cover telehealth visits.

We are happy to call insurance on your behalf. Please call us at (608)713-9291 for more details.

Tips to prepare for your teletherapy session

  • Choose a quiet, private setting.
  • Make sure your computer, tablet, or phone has a camera and reliable internet connection.
  • Test your camera and audio before your sessions begins; ensure that both your camera and microphone are "on"
  • Make your VSee window "full screen"
  • Be present for your session as if you were in our therapy office. We recommend turning off device notifications and minimizing distractions.
